Born in Saint Louis, MO. Lived in St. Petersburg FL for a couple years as a child before moving back to STL. Always meant to move away, it never happened - YET!
My work here is essentially an obsession, but not quite an addiction. Like an obsession, it can preoccupy my thoughts until I am back in my studio surrounded by my materials. Currently, the studio is in my loft home in the city.
I wish I had a glamorous story about how I entered the world of painting but that moment has no place in my conscious memory. I truly cannot remember. Brushes just appeared in my hand one day. Although I created several brush pieces I liked and shared with others, it never quite "felt like me". I wanted more but didn't know what more meant. One day, I had an idea to paint a large canvas using only an old, bent license plate. I scraped the foundational layer of white and scratched the surface with orange and blue, like an abstract patchwork piece. It was fun, but it felt "dry" to me. It still wasn't enough.
Then one day I was looking for a video to put on for my animals while I was away from home and one appeared of an artist tilting a canvas with liquid paint rolling around and paint spilling off the sides making a delicious splattering noise on the table. That was it, I had to hear, feel and see that! And here I am.

Rules and methodologies are fine when beginning a new craft. Once you are aware of principles and strategies, break free from the restraints of "how-to's", don't worry what others think and just create! Whether we write, paint, play music or whatever, if we constantly worry what others think of us and our work, we can never truly let loose and do what we love. Our work might not be for everyone - that is OK. You are making it for YOU and the 1 other person out there who will also love it.
